Magnetoelectronic Systems

HHE Device diagram

Over the past few years, novel magnetoelectronic devices have been developed that offer potential advantages in reconfigurable systems. One such device may be reconfigured to act as either a storage cell or a Boolean logic gate. Other properties of this device include retainment of magnetization state, making them attractive for systems requiring "instant-on" operation. Such properties offer improved density, performance, and off-state power consumption for FPGA architectures. The intent of this project is to explore the integration of these magnetoelectronic devices into working systems. The first half of the project involves circuit studies to design the necessary interfaces between magnetoelectronic devices and CMOS circuits. During the last half of the project, conventional FPGA structures will be designed culminating into new reconfigurable systems that utilize magnetoelectronic devices. Technical Overview.

Magnetoelectronic Systems is funded by the Office of Naval Research under award number N00014-02-1-1038.
