Nick Carter is an Assistant Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and a Research Assistant Professor in the Coordinated Science Laboratory at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He leads the Unconventional Computer Architecture group, which explores computer architectures that do not fit the conventional stored-program model and the application of non-silicon devices to computer design. Our current projects include the Amalgam clustered programmable-reconfigurable processor and the Magnetoelectronic Systems project, which is developing reconfigurable logic and non-volatile processor architectures based on a combination of magnetic devices and conventional CMOS transistors.

Together with Seth Goldstein, he organizes the Workshop on Non-Silicon Computation, which has been held in conjunction with the International Symposium on Computer Architecture and the International Symposium on High-Performance Computer Architecture.
